CSIRO Rural Broadband Access Project

— filed under:

CSIRO’s Rural Broadband Access is a novel, spectrally efficient, fixed wireless communications system that is capable of providing 100 Mbps broadband access for up to 1000 subscribers simultaneously with one base station.

The key concept of this system is based on:

- utilisation of existing broadcast infrastructure (including towers andTV antenna masts)

- utilisation of the VHF/UHF spectrum which will become available as part of the planned switchover from analog to digital TV commencing mid-2010

- beamforming of signals between the base station and subscriber antennas over distances up to 50 km
